French Prosecutors Target X in Content Moderation Probe, Summon Musk and Yaccarino
Paris prosecutors have ordered Elon Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino to appear for questioning on April 20 regarding allegations of illegal content hosted on the platform. The investigation focuses on two key issues: dissemination of child sexual abuse material and posts denying crimes against humanity.
Prosecutor Laure Beccuau framed the inquiry as a "constructive approach" to ensure X's compliance with French law. The probe expands beyond content moderation to include X's recommendation algorithms and its AI chatbot Grok, which regulators allege was used to generate non-consensual intimate imagery.
This marks the second major French investigation into X in a year. The company previously resisted similar scrutiny, calling a 2023 algorithmic transparency request a "politically-motivated criminal investigation."
